Trek Bicycle Austin: An Update

The sale, transfer, rebranding and re-opening of Bicycle Sports Shops to Trek Bicycle Austin is complete. (Although as I cycled by the Lamar Main Store yesterday, and Guadalupe the other day, the old signage is still there.) They sent a message saying:

The beginning of a beautiful friendship. Hey, Austin! We’re Trek Bicycle, and we’re so excited to join your community. Your local Bicycle Sport Shops are now Trek Bicycle stores, and we’re dedicated to carrying on their legacy of incredible customer service, community involvement, and—of course—awesome bikes and gear. We welcome you to drop by one of our five locations to see what’s new. We can’t wait to ride with you!

Here are some more details about the cha-cha-changes.

Hours & Locations

All five stores are operational from 10 am – 6 pm Monday – Saturday, and 11 am – 5 pm Sundays.

Repairs

With 98% of the staff remaining, and the pandemic keeping most customers with curbside purchases, there hasn’t been much noticeable change. However, a recent peek inside the Guadalupe store revealed a sign on the wall that said that for many simple repairs, there is a 24-hour repair guarantee. If the mechanics can’t get your work done, they’ll give you a loaner bike. That’s a pretty cool thing that I’m not aware of any other shop doing. If you don’t have a back-up bike, they’ll keep you rolling, which is pretty cool. With long wait times at other shops due to the surge of interest in cycling, Trek may have a leg up on their competitors with this policy.

Cycling Organization Donation

Trek hasn’t been in town for a month and they’re already giving away money! $10,000 to be exact. You vote, they’ll donate. Stop in one of their stores February 6 – February 21 to vote for your favorite local cycling organization and they’ll donate up to $5,000 to the group with the most votes. Second place will get $3,000 and third place will receive $2,000. Plus, while you’re there, grab some free gear* and enter to win something awesome—like a Domane+ ALR e‑bike. Not too shabby! I may have to go for that, although I don’t need a motorcycle just yet. And I was already offered a t-shirt.

Youth Scholarship

Trek has partnered with the National Interscholastic Cycling Association (NICA) to grow diversity in the sport of cycling and provide better access for diverse and underrepresented youth. Through the Pathfinders Scholarship, they’re providing 250 kids from underrepresented communities across the country with the gear and funds they need to take their first pedal stroke on a journey towards a stronger, healthier, more equitable future. They’re currently seeking nominations for the 2021 fall NICA season. Know a deserving kid who’d love to learn the sport? The Trek/NICA Pathfinders Scholarship will provide selected students with a Trek Marlin mountain bike, helmet, shoes, accessories, and a kit, as well as a stipend for NICA league and entry fees for a full season of racing and events. Well, that’s all the Trek Bikes news that’s fit to blog about. Whatever kind of bike you have, get out there and ride it!

  1. Hey A Dude: I was just looking at that bike – it says you can remove the e-drive system and save 2.9 kg in weight, so if they offer you that bike, you might want to accept – a 22 speed light weight bike +/- e-drive. For a price like free, I’d take it if I were you 😉
