I’m sure you can find plenty of media about the Austin serial bomber. I’m against the death penalty but sociopaths deserve life in prison or a mental hospital. Maybe we’ll find out his motives. But he was a millennial, white, male, conservative, Christian, bigoted domestic terrorist who killed two African-Americans and injured four, one of whom was Latina, so that tells us alot. It’s a sad situation. Maybe there is such a thing as karma.
Today and tomorrow are book writing days, so enjoy a few photos.

Today was to be a book-writing day so only photos for the blog, and maybe a bike ride map and stats from Strava and short map video from Relive. As you might deduce, that didn’t happen. I got my walk and yoga in, but not the writing. Then my doctor’s appointment took three hours instead of one, most of it waiting. I was not a very patient patient. Continue reading
Research bands, sessions, films, etc. in advance. If you’re a middle-aged person like me, reading lists of younger music acts is like reading another language: you don’t understand a word. But unless you use the Filter by genre or Listen features on the SXSW app and also Spotify or other music streaming service, you are doomed to wander into random bars and are likely to get stuck listening to something you hate. There are also plenty of Twitter pages and websites that help you with making choices.

Check out this ride and more pictures on Strava.

I was going to title this post “A Comedy Podcast, Music Showcase and a Horror Film (Walk Into a Bar)” but then I decided the names were more interesting. And because many people wouldn’t get the bar joke. Also it’s really late — so late it’s no longer Friday — and I’m exhausted from attending six bands and a movie about a band on Thursday. On top of that, the internet seemed to have stopped working so I lost the first half draft of this post. So I’m not in the mood (for love or for redoing this.) Let’s just get right to it, shall we? Today at the South by Southwest convention / festival / happening / big mess o’ people, I lucked into a podcast by three cyclists from Portland, Oregon. Anna Grace Christiansen, Annalisa Fish, and Abby Watson at www.WeGotToHangOut.com (which you should totes check out) have a funny and informative podcast about bicycling. Today’s guest was retired professional bike rider and now entrepreneur Ted King. He raced in the Tour de France and Vuelta a Espana and was a domestique for star Peter Sagan, so he’s the real deal. So lucky for me, I got to ask a question on air and then meet and chat with all of them afterward. That made it a pretty easy decision to feature them in today’s A Dude Abikes blog! Readers: you’re welcome. Continue reading
