Regular readers know I’m kinda into numbers, mostly how many miles I’ve biked in a given day, week, month or year. For better or worse, it’s a cornerstone of my bicycling career, such as it is. Usually I look at what I’m doing as measured by Strava, the fitness tracking app. But occasionally I’ll go behind the scenes with WordPress (the program this site runs off of) to look under the hood of this blog, and today is one of those days. I learned some stuff that was kinda interesting. Maybe you’ll find it so as well…

For example, the top post with the most views thus far in 2020 is… the Home page / Archives. Exciting, right? But I don’t count that. The second biggest blog is one I wrote in August of 2019! It’s called Fun with My Strava Bike Ride Titles & Recent Stats and it has 543 views this year. I can only surmise the reason for its popularity is search engine rankings. It’s a decent piece, not my best, although it’s as good as any. It’s somewhat amusing, but face it, when it comes to the one-liners, I’m not comedy icon Rodney Dangerfield. Although I often feel like “I don’t get no respect!” How and why Google or whomever made this post the most popular, I have no idea. Rounding out the top 5 are:
- The Fairdale Weekender Archer: A Review of My New Bicycle I Won in a Raffle! (486 views)
- Which Austin Texas Bike Shops Are Open During the COVID-19 Shelter in Place? (382 views)
- REVIEW: Garmin Vivoactive 3 Music Watch (273 views)
- The Return of Sonnie, the GT Arette Bicycle (245 views)

The top country is naturally the U.S. After that are: Britain and former its colonies India, Canada, Ireland, and Australia. (As was the U.S., wasn’t it?) That’s curious to me, because I wouldn’t think cycling for sport is that popular in India. But the bicycle is ubiquitous as a form of transportation, and that is cool with me. Also, I guess blogging is big there. And I don’t discriminate, there are some lovely bloggers from India following me and I wish I had time to read them all. Canada has cyclists, like fellow blogger Anthony’s Perfect Moment. But is is cold a lot so does not have the all-year biking weather like Texas, except for the hard-core. Spain makes sense, as they’re big into cycling, as is of course France. China used to have a lot more biking as transportation. Japan is a bit of a head-scratcher. Of course I’m happy and grateful to have readers from anywhere. However, there are plenty of followers who are not bicycle riders, and I’m happy to have anyone as a reader who appreciates my writing. It’s not about always, bikes, either!

As for how many posts, word count, comments and likes, this WordPress graphic tells the tale of what has been happening. At three posts a week, I’ve written the equivalent of a novel just this year alone (and probably the last two as well). I’m a bit less wordy than I have been in past years, I believe, which his a good thing. This blog is not blowing up the popularity charts or anything. But for a site that doesn’t promote itself through social media, it’s got a nice little following. Thank you if you’re part of it!
That’s it for now. Y’all come back now, ya’ hear?

More miles, fewer words would be better I think.
