Toolin’ Around at Austin Yellow Bike Project

For some time now, my left crank has not matched my right crank.  It was making me a little cranky!  So tonight I took a spin again to see my friends at the Austin Yellow Bike Project, www.AustinYellowBike.org.  The free shop has evening hours and is staffed by helpful volunteers called CoordinatorsPete, Zack and Conti were there to offer pointers.  But it’s very much a Do It Yourself affair.  Come peek under the hood! MeetUp WordPress Themes Class; SCORE Mentoring Call; and I Reach My 100th Follower!

Newer fellow bloggers may find this of interest, and more experienced ones may have something to chime in about.  I can publish a blog, but that’s about it.  Hiring a webmaster is not in the budget, so unless one jumps out of the bushes (a distinct possibility out here in the country – but probably something creepier), learning how to improve www.ADudeAbikes.com is up to me.  So I attended a class.  I also had an interesting conversation with a mentor from SCORE, a program of the Small Business Administration that I will summarize.  And oh, I received my 100th follower of my blog today! Replacing My Brakes at Austin Yellow Bike Project

Tonight I took my old Fuji bicycle to the free community shop, Austin Yellow Bike Project. The brakes were very worn, which I consider a point of pride, because it means I’ve ridden my bike a shit ton of miles.  That’s right, I used a curse word. So sue me! Normally A Dude Abikes is a family friendly blog.  We still have free speech here in ‘Merrikuh, don’t we?  But biking 10,000 miles in two years was so much work, one swear word doesn’t even begin to do that justice.  Anyway, YBP is cool, so let me tell you about it. Buddha Beginner’s Mind-Boggling Blogger Blues; Clues I Still Have Alot to Learn

“The goal of practice is always to keep our beginner’s mind.”

–Shunryu Suzuki, Zen Mind, Beginner’s Mind: Informal Talk on Zen Meditation and Practice

You Don’t Know What you Don’t Know, Don’t You Know?

A Dude Abikes began this blog in 2016 as an experiment in writing about his biking. For the first two years, he focused mostly on all the biking, not so much on the smithing of the words. As 2018 unfolds, he has resolved to write daily for a month and then regularly after that. It’s clear there is still quite alot to be learned about the art, craft, science and je ne sais quois about web logs.
